名词术语
A part time work:
it is a regular work, which is usually being dine in one`s spare time .People who take a part time work can get extra money special purpose.
Marsupials :
(animal) of the class of mammals that have a pouch in which to carry their young, which are born before developing completely.
Multiculturalism :
this is a policy worked out by the Australia government, which encourage people with different ethnic background to keep their own culture.
Flying doctor :
wherever and whenever people fall ill, they can use radio to call doctors and doctors can come by plane, so people call them flying doctors.
Ice Age :
time when many parts of the world were covered with glaciers
Boomerang :
carved throwing—stick of hard wood used in hunting by Australia aborigines; if it fails to hit anything it comes back to the person who throw it
Kinship :
relationship by blood; similarity in character.
The Union Jack :
the British flag
Tariff barriers :
a policy of protecting tariff adopted by country to restrict goods important from abroad, and the other party, in order to make reprisals, also adopts the same policy, thus the tariff barriers are formed.
The Great Depression :
refers to the economic depression occurred in U. S. A and some countries during the time from 1929 to about 1939.
Warbonds :
printed paper issued usually by a government during a war acknowledging that money has been lent to it and will be paid back with interest.
GDP(gross domestic product) :
the goods produced in a country within a year and the labour value in money excluding the income from abroad during the time.
DNP( gross national product) :
the goods(the final products) produced in a country within a year and total labor power value in money which is used to measure the complex target of the country`s economic situation.
The Governor—General :
he or she is the representative of the British Queen, constitutionally, the Governor—General exercise the executive power of the commonwealth of Australia and is the commander—in—chief of the defense force.
Referendum :
it is a political activity during which all the citizens in a country or an area are asked to give opinions about an important political question.
Senate :
Upper House of the parliament. There are the same number from each state in the senate, it is similar in power to the House of Representatives.
The High court of Australia :
the High curt is the most superior and the top of Australia `s judicial system. It consists of a chief justice and six justices. Decision made by the High Court are binding on all other Australia courts.
The Makaratta Treaty :
during the election campaign in 1983, Bob Hawke were promised to sign the original owners of the Australia continent. This treaty was called the Makaratta treaty “Makaratta” is a word which comes from Aboriginal language meaning the end of a dispute and the star of normal relation. But his promise was not realized.
Malticulturalism :
this is an Australia policy recognizing that Australia are drawn from backgrounds. According to this policy migrant groups are able to speak their own languages and maintain their own custom. In this way the Australia economy can be stimulated and new skills can be brought to Australia industry and business. |
